Additional Information

Since the Bronze Age, some 5,000 years ago, those wishing to sail the seas have relied on their ship’s anchor for stability and control, often as a last resort against the rolling storms and heaving tides of the Gods. Similarly, these fabulous brass key chains will stabilize your keys, keeping them together in your nearest port, or pocket, of safe haven. While the ancient Greeks used baskets full of stone to counter drift from the surge of Poseidon’s waves and winds, and other early anchors were nothing more than large rocks, these brass key chains present the symbolic ideology for which anchors have come to stand. As ships have progressed so has the anchor evolved, from those earliest rock weights to the common shape we see today. The Admiralty Pattern, beautifully recreated on this nautical keychain, is not very different from its distant ancestors, utilizing the same basic principles of a pointed tip to penetrate the seabed and a mass to hold it in place. Two fluke arms provide a capture point with the sea floor, digging into the deep ocean earth to find a hold, while separate arms are placed to 90 degrees near the shackle, where brass rings are interchanged for massive chains, providing stability. With a nod of respect to both history and symbolism, these brass key chains faithfully reproduce that inspired feeling of hope.
